Lifecycle Email Sequences & Retention Flows for DTC Brand (Long-Term Collaboration)

We're a growing DTC brand focused on maximising customer retention and repeat revenue, and we're looking for an email marketing specialist to help us build, optimise, and maintain automated lifecycle flows over the next several months. This is a long-term project (over 3 months), but we're starting with a small test task to ensure a good fit and approach before expanding the scope.
Your first assignment will be to create, review, or optimise a single lifecycle email (for example, a reactivation, winback, or post-purchase message), including copywriting, subject line, and basic segmentation logic. We want to see how you structure messaging for engagement and retention, and how you approach testing variations (A/B subject lines, CTA tweaks, or content blocks) within the constraints of a limited send volume. If you have experience with Klaviyo or similar ESPs, and a solid grasp of lifecycle automation, that's a plus—but the focus here is on demonstrating your thought process and creative execution for this first deliverable.
Our brand currently uses a mix of triggered flows and manual campaigns, but we're aiming to improve our onboarding, cart recovery, and reactivation sequences to drive incremental revenue. The longer-term goal is to build out a full lifecycle map, but for this initial piece, you'll have access to basic audience data and can suggest simple segmentation (e.g., lapsed buyers, new subscribers, or high-LTV cohorts) to guide your message. We're especially interested in how you balance brand voice with performance, and how you approach copy that both converts and feels authentic.
- Draft or optimise one lifecycle email (copy, subject, preview)
- Suggest a basic test (subject line or CTA variant)
- Briefly outline your segmentation logic (1–2 sentences)
- Comment on timing/cadence if relevant
We're looking for someone with mid-level experience in email & lifecycle marketing, who understands the basics of automation, segmentation, and retention strategy. If this initial task goes well, there's potential for much more extensive work—mapping full flows, ongoing optimisation, and campaign planning over the coming months. Clear communication and openness to feedback are key, as we'll want to iterate quickly and learn from each test.
To apply, share a short note on your approach to lifecycle emails (no need for a full portfolio at this stage), and let us know if you've worked with DTC brands or similar projects. Turnaround for this first task is flexible, but we're hoping to see your ideas and draft within a week of starting. Thanks for considering this—looking forward to seeing how you approach the challenge!
In short: test project for one lifecycle email to start, with a view to longer-term collaboration on our retention and revenue flows.
